The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Spurs extended their winning streak on the road in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at their new home.

The Toffees were unbeaten in their last five matches at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having left Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Spurs captain the Dutchman struck twice from corners in the first half to place their strong form at risk, and they were failed to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - headed home a third to seal the victory.

The Everton defender thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after the defender's first goal, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, failed to convert a number of opportunities, while Vicario made a succession of fine stops to guarantee the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the VAR stepped in, instructing Craig Pawson to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the official ruled that Jack Grealish and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had impeded with the Spurs keeper.

The win moves the manager's side into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay in 14th position and sit six points clear of the relegation zone.

After a drab weekday display in the Champions League against Monaco, where they managed a only attempts on goal, the manager opted for the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

Beto and Thierno Barry - the Everton's pair of established strikers - had netted just one league goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to add to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy night on Merseyside.

Beto's form was epitomized when he opted to overhead kick a clear chance from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to reposition for a simpler shot that would have challenged Vicario.

Barry, as well, was unable to influence the game after coming on for Beto in the 65th minute.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who relentlessly delivered threatening crosses into the Tottenham box.
