Heartbreaking News on Cargo Plane Accident: Fatalities Increases to 13

The tally of victims resulting from the freight aircraft which caught fire and plummeted has climbed to 13, according to official statements.

Official's Remarks

While en route to the Workers’ memorial service, I learned of a 13th person that died as a result of the aircraft incident,” expressed the city mayor in a public communication. “My heart is with the families, associates and colleagues of all who were taken in this recent calamity. We will overcome this collectively.”

Victims Identified

A release from UPS identified the pilots aboard the aircraft as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our hearts go out to every employee who has been impacted and all in our community community – helping you and ensuring you receive the attention and resources you need is our main concern,” the organization’s message read.

Inquiry Details

Government authorities revealed that the UPS cargo plane’s left wing caught fire and an engine separated shortly after takeoff from the aviation hub, leading to the plane to fall and explode into a fireball.

The NTSB announced it is investigating the aircraft’s service record, that was in the state for repairs several weeks ahead of the crash.

Aircraft records indicated the jet was on the runway in the Texas city from early September to mid-October.

“We are aware that this aircraft was located in San Antonio,” remarked an official on the following day, without providing a precise date range. “We will review all elements of repairs that was performed, from the San Antonio visit, straight to the time of the journey.”

Retrieval of Critical Components

The audio device and information unit were retrieved, and the power plant was found on the tarmac.

The devices – referred to as flight recorders – were designed to endure collision damage and intense temperatures from blazes, and they appeared to be in one piece when discovered within the crash debris. Authorities plan on analyzing information from the black boxes.

The plane’s concluding flight details displayed an height of 475 ft and a rate of that speed ahead of the crash.

Repair Background

Per FAA documents from last month, a crack on a component inside the fuel container required repairs.

Headquartered in Singapore ST Engineering, which stated it offers aircraft servicing for the company’s jet and manages a service location in San Antonio, chose not to speak, but said it would work closely when investigators approached it.

Operations Resume

At the same time, the hub activities resumed that evening with its express or night sort procedure, representative Jim Mayer said. The three landing strips at the aviation hub were likewise open again.

The sorting center in this location is the company’s most significant. The center hires more than twenty thousand workers in the region, manages 300 aircraft each day and organizes in excess of a huge volume of packages each hour.

Public Reaction

A candlelight vigil was conducted on the night of that date by the local labor union, which represents staff at the aviation hub, the firm’s primary freight center.

Teamsters Local 89, which supports UPS workers, commenced the memorial with a quiet tribute at that time, the approximate time of the crash two days earlier.

“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the official addressed the group of 200. “No one had a moment to part to any of those who we have said farewell to.”
