Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could enable the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a life debt to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
